Sewing My First Garment
When I began sewing, something like a simple day dress seemed over the realm of possibility for me. Before my first garment, I started with tote bags and scrunchies. I made sure that I was really able to perfect each of these, just to make sure I was ready to move on from that. The tutorials on YouTube for each of these seemed to suffice, but I felt that following a step-by-step tutorial didn’t seem as authentic as following your own pattern and creating it from your own vision. I watched a few videos on how to read patterns and to cut fabric correctly to start. Most likely, I make a post on how to do each of these things over time!
Took a scroll through Pinterest and decided on a simple dress with minimal pieces and an easy strap to hold it up. I printed the pattern. I held it to my fabrics, where I cut them into each section, and pinned the pieces right-side together. Ran it through a sewing machine and it came out successfully! The following link is the first video I watched before sewing this project:

The Garment
This took about 4 hours of my time. The pattern was simple and it is stretchy so it fits a few sizes! This is the easiest dress for beginners. This is your sign!
Sew, What did I learn?
What a learning process this was for me, but it taught me a couple things. One thing I learned was to be happy with what I make. Throughout the process, I took a lot of breaks but I knew what the end goal was. I wanted to have something I could look at and be happy with.
Another thing I learned was discipline when it comes to finishing a craft. This was the most intensive craft that I have done. I have quit over and over on past projects not related to sewing, so I was worried I would lost interest. When I started, though, I was so into it that I could not stop. Just keep at it 🙂 I also did an introductory post if you would like to more about me!
